problem; Has anyone ver seen anything like this?

Postby JimBeamBlack » Thu Jul 05, 2012 7:08 am

I have contacted support but also wanted to check these forums for anyone who may have had this issue:

I'm having some strange problem with my Tampa-Rebooted-KTPA (see my youtube)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_0J8YoUpmQ&feature=plcp

It only happens when I view another area and then look back at the airport OR am fling in to land from another area, but it's such a beautiful add-on this just seems to ruin the effect.

I have tried running the installer again

I am not using the hi-res grass

I have removed the folder and scenery from my FSX scenery and add on folder and reinstalled it...twice

I have installed the patch Update_21

I don't get this at all with any other add-on OR when KTPA is not installed

I have:

GEX
UTX
LandClass NA
FEX
ActiveSky (AS2012)
UT2 (set to 50%)
Manhattan X

any help would be appreciated!

It just takes time for the scenery to load. When you look away it unloads to boost performance and loads when you look at it again. Being so complex it does take some time to load.

Try deleting or renaming these 2 files, see if the problem goes away.
Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-Tampa/scenery/tampa_photo_day.bgl
Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-Tampa/scenery/tampa_photo_night.bgl

Also, see if this happens with UT traffic off.

I checked the texture folder again and KTPA has 340MB in textures (incl Night which aren't even loaded in your video). This amount of texture does not seem excessive to me. It could be for older hardware, but our newer sceneries like KBUF and ATH have a similar amount. If you are of course running a Gfx card with less then 1GB VRAM, and a system with 2 or 4GB RAM that would perhaps explain why its happening.

Howdy n797mx and Martin, I got your email Martin, thanks man.

I turned off ALL traffic form UT2 and checked the airport with a once around and there were NO aircraft in sight.

I then fly out, look around, and it still does it.

I will try removing those files you mentioned and see whats shakes. (what do they do BTW?)

My system is in my sig 12gig DDR3 PC2000 and a GTX680 Superclocked with 2 gigs DDR5, I should be way over the top for the specs for this sim, and I have all the needed tweaks in my.cfg to make it all work properly too. This system is a real performer.

I do have it on a pretty cluttered (albeit very fast SATA 3 WD Raptor) HDD though.

I'll try those 2 files and see what happens. (I'll save them just incase)

thanks for taking the time to look at this for me, both y'all!! I really do appreciate your time.

OH!! is there a way I can remove the airport underneath this one?

in other words, does Tampa Rebooted go OVER the stock airport? and if so is there a way I can remove it?

sorry if this is a stupid question...just thinking out loud...lol

Hey Martin, I got your email. thanks man,

I tried those files removed, still no joy! I think I need to re-install everything, but I will wait till I get a dedicated drive first.

The 2 files mentioned are the Photoscenery surrounding the airport. Without them you see generic landclass as soon as you leave the airport perimeter. Since those files are quite heavy, I thought it worth a try.

I have definitly seen complete texture reloads like in your video at KTPA. But I only get this when I slew around the whole Tampa Bay area like crazy to the point where even the Grd Landclass blurs out. That it reloads all airport textures every time it comes back into camera-view is not normal.

The default airport underneath is always excluded pretty much automatically within every airport addon. Its not like the original airports are still running and dragging down performance once a Addon airport is installed.

Well I went last night and got a 120gig SSD on sale at CompUSA, got it at a pretty good price so I'm happy.

I spent all day reinstalling every addon and tweaking things out, my sim runs fantastic....but my TIA still loads like this everytime I look at it......

I have no idea what it could be, I have tried everything. The black boxes at the lights is somewhat normal on the DX9, but the heavy slow loading of the textures is confusing.

I guess I could put in another 12gig of ram...lol

OK, I have got it almost working pretty good....

It still loads like my video every time Iook away and then put the airport into view BUT it loads MUCH faster, like within 1-2 seconds.

This way if I look toward the airport a bit slower I don;t even notice it.

this tweak worked: As taken from a poster in another forum bojote

"Display]TextureMaxLoad=60 // Not to be confused with the TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD setting that goes in the [GRAPHICS] section, this is a completely different setting.UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 // to set FPS to unlimted so the above setting will work.[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.5[TERRAIN]SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 having a SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT of 2 is a 'VERY' aggresive setting, what you are doing setting it that low is 'assuring' the terrain engine that 'textures' are always loaded into VIDEO MEMORY and this can ONLY be achieved with TextureMaxLoad=60. Remeber, this is an 'experimental' thread. Its purpose is to determine the benefits (if any) of the tweaks dicussed. Nothing revolutionary about it.. just a simple blurries fix alternative to see if it works for others as it has worked for me."

I believe this is the tweak that did the trick:

[TERRAIN]SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2
