v2.1 - ILS/ATC Rwy Designators Still Outdated?

Postby jordanal » Thu Sep 13, 2012 6:52 am

Hi all,
I have double checked that my FlyTampa (FSX) 2.1 is installed correctly (since release), but for some reason, I just realized my Radar Contact ATC add-on is still using the old Rwy designators that I thought 2.1 was supposed to address. I don't have this issue with any other add-on airports.

If you're not familiar with it, The Radar Contact ATC program uses Pete Dowson's (FSUIPC fame) MakeRwy.exe utility to scan all active AFCADs and provide necessary airport information, including Rwy designators, back to RC. The MakeRwy utility is executed manually after any airport AFCAD changes.

When I bring up the Radar Contact on approach, I still get the old 18L/18R designators for example, in both the RC menu and ATC audio. These were supposed to be 19L/19R after the 2.1 update, right? So, how come MakeRwy.exe is still parsing old Rwy data from the latest (2.1) AFCAD? Could a minute detail have been missed in the AFCAD update? It makes me wonder if perhaps only the Rwy textures themselves were updated (19L/19R), but not the ILS designators...

If you can confirm that nothing appears to be outdated in the AFCAD data, I will pose this question over on Pete's FSUIPC forum and see if he can figure out why MakeRwy isn't seeing the correct (2.1) AFCAD Rwy data.

Also worth noting, I have tripple checked my entire FSX installation and I don't appear to have any conflicting AFCAD installations. Besides, the 2.1 scenery itself looks just as it should - FlyTampa Sweet! :D

Thanks,
Regards,
Al

OK, I'm now wondering why/how no one else has seen this problem. I've completed a bit more investigation this morning and now believe there is old Rwy identifiers, 18R instead of 19R for example, in the AFCAD approach data, which MakeRwys.exe uses to populate airport data for Radar Contact.

I have confirmed the current KTPA rebooted v2.1 AFCAD bgl is the same size and date as the one contained in the KTPA Rebooted, 2.1 patch exe installer at the top of this forum - KTPA_ADEX_FLYTAMPA.BGL, dated Jan 22, 2011.

As an example in the first jpg capture, the old runway 18R is still displayed in RC - circled in red. These 'old' runway designators are being used throughout RC menu's and ATC audio as well.

In the second screen-capture, the FSX Airport Scanner utility identifies the old runway designators are still in all the approach data (ILS, GPS, NDB, etc...). The FixIdent is still using old RWY identifiers, which is causing MakeRwys.exe and in turn, RC to use old Rwy data.

Can this be fixed please, in a corrected AFCAD?

First, download the attached Afcad (for FSX) and overwrite it in Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-Tampa/scenery/

Your second shot appears to have scanned for KTPA in the stock FSX database. The stock KTPA (with the old data) will always be there, regardless of Addons that modify it. In other words, all default Afcad data remains, the way addon Afcads work is they have an "exclude" command before inserting their own new data. This exclude is actived at runtime in FS.

Well, hey Martin, thanks for replying. :D

As you can see in the below capture, the above AFCAD does in fact seem to give me the proper Rwy identifiers now in Radar Contact - thank you very, very, much for such a timely fix!

I'm curious to know; the data in the second screen capture above didn't change with this new AFCAD. So it must be as you suspected, part of the default FSX scenery. So what did you do to the AFCAD to fix the Rwy Idents?

Also, OT, aren't we suposed to get forum topic reply notifications by e-mail when someone posts in a subscribed thread? I don't think I've ever received a e-mail from the FlyTampa forum system - including notification of your reply above. I just happened to stop back by to see if anyone had responded yet. Sure glad I came back and checked-in! :P

Thanks again to all the FlyTampa guys - you still rock! :D

Radar Contact is the biggest waste of money as it is the biggest scam software ever created for flight sim. ATC's main function is to separate traffic. Radar Contact does not do this on the ground or in the air. All it does is tell you where to go based on you telling it where your going. LOL
