FlyTampa Ortho4XP tool

Post by emilios[flytampa] » Mon Sep 30, 2019 11:01 am

FlyTampa Ortho4XP tool is now updated to include Athens.
Please use the links below to download.

You will also need to disable three .dsf mesh files. To do this, nagivate to 'X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\FlyTampa_Athens_3_mesh\Earth nav data\+30+020' and rename as follows:

+37+024.off
+38+023.off
+38+024.off

thanks emilios, but it seems to have some issues.

is it fine that only tile +37+023 is in the mask folder? Is your mesh not affecting other tiles aswell? also there seems to be missing a mask/mask_coords.txt

Hi there, I can see all the necessary tiles in the masks folder like below. Can you not see them in your download?

Hi, first let me say how good this scenery looks & how happy I am to finally replace the one I bought & converted years ago. The ortho is a constant issue with X-Plane because of the way mesh is dealt with on X-Plane. I see Athens custom mesh folder includes the 4 tiles which share corners with the airport. All of these need to be converted with water masks or it's unacceptable to many. Other than that, FlyTampa throwing their hat in the ring is one of the best things to happen to our scenery in a while. I am wondering if all 4 tiles are eligible for full conversion as the mesh is customized on them. I will try again shortly. Thanks to you & the FlyTampa team for all your awesome scenery. Please continue porting over the whole enchilada !

The tiles 39+19 and 39+20 which are mentioned in the fix are tiles for Corfu and not Athens. Which tiles are we supposed to convert using the tool?

i can see them, but only +37+023 is for Athens. So the question was if really only one tile needs to be fixed by this tool. Also, the python code expects 'mask/mask_coords.txt' but the file is one level above. Moving it manually into "mask" will result in
FlyTampa Ortho4XP conversion tool
detecting earth tile..
+37+023 detected..
It seems like you are trying to convert a non FlyTampa tile

I also only see the 1 file +037+023 but Athens has 4 total mesh files blocking 4 ortho tiles (037+023 +038+023 +037+24 +038+024) . I'm assuming your mesh tiles do something. There is a lot of coast line in those 4 tiles & also more than a few other airports which makes this a non trivial matter to me at least. I have been trying to create the .jpegs with co-ordinates but I'm no skilled hand at this. Cheers !

I have been unable to to get this conversion tool to work. When i use the conversion tool it says that the file 37+23 is detected and then the box closes. Am i doing something wrong? And is it possible to use the flattened runway fix that was available for Thessaloniki?

Hi, just tried the new tool & it crashes right after detecting the +37+023 tile. The old tool says it's not a FlyTampa scenery though I don't know why that would even be relevant. Nice scenery but a lot of trouble on all 3 sceneries so far.

please re-download the tool, now they have corrected the wrong placement of the mask_coords.txt (which caused the tool to crash after detecting the tile)....
for the script to work, you need to edit the .py file (Flytampa_Ortho4xp_conversion_tool.py)

and replace with the following line

Code: Select all

m = ["+40+022","+40+023","+35+025","+39+019","+39+020", "+37+023" ]

I'm currently in a flight so I can't test it out right now, but is the issue now fixed if one downloads to the tool again and edits the .py file?

You may only keep the +37+023 tile if you wish to use FT-Ortho4XP tool with Athens

To disable the remaining files, nagivate to 'X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\FlyTampa_Athens_3_mesh\Earth nav data\+30+020' and rename as follows:

+37+024.off
+38+023.off
+38+024.off

No need to edit the .py
Just need to disable those .dsf files as mentioned above.

*make sure you re-download the tool as its updated

What exactly are the problems with using the Athens scenery with 'unconverted' Ortho4XP? I bought the FlyTampa Thessaloniki scenery a couple of weeks back and must say, in spite of not having touched the existing Ortho4XP terrain there at all, with FT conversion tools or whatever, I can't say I have noticed any obvious problems. I just added the FT LGTS folders in the correct order in the scenery pack ini file.

Maybe I am just being unobservant and there are some glaring issues staring me in the face, but.....

Thanks
