loosing detailed texture at KSFO with ATI

Postby steph » Sun Apr 24, 2005 6:21 pm

Hi,

I bought KSFO over six month ago. I am very pleased with it.
So far the best scenery I ever purchased. Recently I upgraded
my system with a DVI LCD panel. I also updated to the latest ATI
5.4 driver (I own a 9800PRO). Then something went terribly wrong.
I have lots of problem at KSFO and elsewhere. Everything starts
relatively normally but after a few stutters, some textures become
blurry, as if I had set mipmap level to none. I have attached a picture
showing the situation. I can get rid of it by going full screen or
going back to window mode but this does not last too long.
It seem like FS9 slows down a little and I loose some textures, not all
of them (see pict). I normally run full window mode. I have FS9 mipmap
set to 5, render to texture, T&L. In the 5.4 ATI driver I have AA 4x,
Aniso at 2x, texture and mipmap at high quality, application preference
is off. Changing any settings in FS9 or ATI driver does not fix anything.
No other game exhibits this behavior.

Has anyone any explanation for this?

Thanks.

I have an 9800 as well. In the direct3d settings within the driver, make both texture preference and mipmap level details high quality (sliders to the right).

Martin,

They already are both at High Quality. I am wondering if there is not some
bad interaction between my configuration and iFDG A318. Because the
problems seems to occurs only when I use this plane and in spot view.
I also uninstalled completely the ATI driver and cleanup the Registry, then
reinstalled ATI driver 5.4. Nothing changed. So it must be a problem with
FS9, especially because all the other games work just fine.

Thanks.

I haven't tried this aircraft but what probably happens is that this ac uses very heavy textures. You can look in the Aircraft/texture.x folders and see how many Megabytes total there are. Problem is that KSFO is also texture heavy and when both are loaded the gfx card runs out of RAM and starts using Mips (I assume).

What you can try is to install this set up replacement textures for KSFO
http://66.98.138.31/~railkoba/flytampaf ... .php?t=415

They are less heavy and might leave enough RAM free to use this aircraft at KSFO
