Weird Vallies/gorges

Postby zaphr » Fri Jul 23, 2010 8:29 pm

Hi, i just bough the LOWW v2 airport and it looks great! But... on the border between the airport and the default scenery there are some deep gorges, it looks a bit like river canyons but with houses inside of it.
I have UTX Europe and GEX Europe installed, both are below LOWW in the scenery library.

Here is a pic:

Thanks in advance

William

I haven't been able replicate this problem.

Based on what UTX does, I bet those are river lines which flatten the terrain. See if Vienna is above UTX in the Scenery Library and if that makes a difference. If not, attempt to disable UTX temporarily to see if the problem goes away. If it does not, it could be something entirely.

Yeah, either disabling UTXE or Vienna V2 got rid of the problem, but that doesn't really help me, should i try reinstalling LOWW?

Reinstalling or anything you do won't change this I think.

I'll try to post a vector-river exclude test BGL here in the next couple of days and you can see if it helps.

Thanks, i appreciate your help. But how come i have this problem and nobody else? I mean, haven't something gone wrong in the installation or maybe it is a compatibility problem?

I think it only appears when using UTX. Those lines are small rivers that default FSX does not have. UTX is a product that insert more precise data into FSX so those rivers are represented. Other people running UTX would have this effect as well I suspect.

Replace the attached file in Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-Vienna/scenery/

Let me know if this makes any difference.

Sorry :/ no difference. I Took a photo however because what you said about the river thing made me think about something i had seen before while disabling and enabling. Here is a picture comparison between GEX, UTX and LOWWv2 vs GEX, UTX and default LOWW.

What puzzles me however is that you can see on these photos that the river anomaly is in lowwv2's "zone" ie it has other textures then the GEX/UTX scenery outside, why would UTX mess with something that is inside your airport?

UTX is a "Data addon", it has road, river etc data. This type of data is not excluded by LOWW. So what happens is you see the LOWW texture area, but that doesn't mean the roads etc "underneath" are gone. The reason they aren't is because in FSX when doing an Exclude for such data, the exclude often affects a huge area which then needs to be rebuilt from scratch by the Addon that excluded it.

I'll post another file to test later.

I've been testing a little myself, and im completely without a clue to why this is happening, i have made Offset for Rivers and streams to none (no terrain shaping just paste to terrain) and without Vienna v2 there is no gorge, the river has no banks that is.

If the terrain is flat with UTX and without Vienna, and flat with vienna but without UTX, why is it carved out with them both together??

Anyways, i hope you find something, it is a really beautiful airport, and without this problem it would be perfect for me.

Can you post another screenshot from a similar angle like the 1st one you posted without LOWW, just UTX etc.

Here is a pic from pretty much the same angle and location, the river is flat everywhere as far as i know.

Airport to the right, the rivers that was on the bottom of the carved out rivers are now correctly positioned.

Hope its the one you were looking for :)

EDIT: the site i was using for upload doesn't seem to be working, ill upload instead:

Please try the following.

Backup Addon scenery/FlyTampa-Vienna/scenery/

Delete all files in that folder except:

loww_mesh.bgl
cvxLOWW.bgl (the one attached to the earlier post)

Take a screenshot again from that angle and post it. The river texture may or may not be gone, but the trench should be visible. I need to see whatever the river vector/texture is there or not to check if the exclude is working.

Delete all the files except the two posted and keep vienna activated in scenery library? is that right?

Yes, backup first so you can copy the files back into the folder later.
