File download with universal installer

I have a question regarding the Universal Installer: Is it really the intended way, that every time I want (or need) to reinstall the software or there are tiny updates, I have to download the entire package? Is there no way to have a local backup and a more efficient method of having minor updates like FSdreamteam, PMDG and others have?

Yes, it is the intended way because its easier for me to maintain and distribute.
